I think street art contributes to the character of the city. It is a way of artists modificating the city and its soul. Especially when it’s on “less important” places like sidewalls, parking lot entries, abandoned places or squatter houses. Even though most governments try to ban it, hiding it by painting it over, I don’t think it has a negative impact on society when done properly. In the end, it’s art… In fact, it may even make it easier to live in a city as much as it makes it more fun. An art piece on the exterior of an apartment can be a utilitarian element just like an architectural one. Let’s say we are to meet a friend near a wall with art on it, that can easily be a meeting point just like a famous building or a statue.
Here’s a hyperlapse video showing the street art in Rome.
